Dear Wild Child Arts Families, I want to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude for your continued support of Wild Child Arts over the past three years. It has been a joy to see the creativity and enthusiasm of our young artists flourish each summer, and I cherish the memories we've created together. After much consideration, I have made the difficult decision to pause the Wild Child Arts summer camp this year. Planning and executing the camp has been an incredible experience, but I feel it is important to take a step back and focus on some personal and professional priorities this summer. Additionally, we have major construction planned for the property that will require significant attention and planning. This project will ultimately help us enhance our space for future camps, and I am excited about what is to come. I understand this news may be disappointing, and I truly appreciate your understanding and support during this time. I encourage you to keep an eye out for updates in the future, as I hope to return even stronger with new and exciting programs for our beloved young artists. Thank you once again for your understanding and support.
From the Keystone State to Almost Heaven...
A full-time K-12 art educator at charming Morgan Academy, Adrienne Asam resides in ever-inspiring Appalachia, Shepherdstown, WV with her husband David, and two daughters, Willow & Indie. Born and raised in rural PA, Asam is a self-proclaimed "artist from birth." She credits her humble hippie parents for restricting technology use and absolutely forbidding video games. The words, "I'm bored..." were returned with items like sketchbooks, hiking sticks, pencils & charcoal, pocketknives, and fishing poles. These items were accompanied with a firm, empowering, and excitable, "Go play outside!" Adrienne is a true believer in "fun is what you make it" & fondly recalls creating lots of playmates & imaginary characters, despite being an only child. Educated classically & conservatively in PA for several years, the move to WV introduced a 360-degree pivot in her education. Shepherd University (formerly Shepherd College) offered a contemporary & liberal newness which fused & broadened Asam's artistic repertoire. She says, "The art department was a creative bootcamp which, at times, I hated. Being pushed so far outside of my comfort zone only made me more solution based. I never thought of myself as a 'Ms. Fix It' until I was constantly solving ridiculous artistic problems for a grade. I'd make it work or I'd learn from it. Both outcomes were pretty awesome. And those professors... I have absolute love and respect for those professors. They've changed my life." Asam's educators are the reason she educates. Like art supplies, each teacher & professor was different, important, and unique. Each difference became a part of her life & her lessons. Wild Child Art Studio & Summer Camp is, like its creator, so much more than art. All you need to bring is willingness.
